Some gym equipment machines don’t need an additional weight to be added as they make use of the users body weight to create resistance.
Bodyweight and abdominal exercise machines include sit up benches, roman char, VKRs, chin bars, dipping bars, chin dip combo, knee raise, abdominal crunch bench, hyper extension and CrossCore rotational bodyweight systems.
You may be looking for abdominal machines to create a six-pack or set of washboard abs, or you may be looking for ways to strengthen your core muscles to avoid injury or just increase your cora stabiliser muscles.
When it comes to the abdominals nothing seems to create more of a noise than a new machine that promises a super lean six pack, by hardly using it! Here’s the thing, you can strengthen your abs and get great looking abdominals like mine. It will be a mix of the following changes in your lifestyle
1: Abdominal and core strengthening exercises
2: Changes to your eating
3: The inclusion of high intensity cardio exercises such as High Intensity Interval Training, or Tabata.
Lets focus on the types og gym equipment that you can buy right now to start omn point 1.
What Abdominal and Core Training Gym Equipment is There Out There?
Well to answer that questions, lets put to bed the myth that there is only one exercise, (the one taht you just watched on some Verimark advert!) There are many ways to strengthen the abs
Here are the most popula exercises
Below I have collected the best 5 exercises equipment for abs. It is my opinion based on my experiences.
Vertical Knee Raise and Hip Flexor
The Vertical knee raise is sometimes called the hip flexor, however most modern units are far more than just a hip flexor or knee up machine. Most units have a chin bar and a dip bar. Some even offer push up bars at the bottom of the unit.
This means that you can then perform at east 4 different bodyweight exercises in a circuit fashion.
The machines that you may be most interested in are
- Powertec Basic Trainer
- Force USA Power Tower
- Powertec Chin Dip Assist
Adjustable Sit Up Bench
This sit up bench and ladder design is perhaps one of the best known machines in the gym. I certainly remember my early days in the gym competing with the other trainers as to how steep we could make the incline. With this design, the steeper the incline the more difficult the exercise is to do. This is the same as increasing the resistance.
You can do a number of exercises on this bench
- Sit Ups
- Leg Raises
- Twisting sit ups
- Use as a flat bench
If this is what you are after have a look at this sit up bench and ladder combination.
Besides sit ups we can do a wide variety ab exercises, for instance, crunches, leg raising and twists etc. It is a truly valuable tool to train the entire core.
2. Ab Roller
This is another very powerful tool to train abdominal muscles plus shoulders, arms and back. An ab wheel allows us to perform an efficient core workout. We can stimulate the muscles when we roll out and in. Therefore, the abdominal muscles are continuously used.
I think, it is the best equipment for lower and upper abs training. You can read more about the benefits of using ab roller here. Here you can check the review of Fitness Ab Carver Pro which is the best!
3. Pull Up, Power Towers and Vertical Knee Raise
Pull up bars and VKRs are a mainstay of body weight exercises Hanging leg or knee raises are the most popular ab exercise on this type of machine.
There are a number of different models and designs. The Power Towers include a number of different exercises including dips, pull ups, chins, push ups and knee raises. Another option is the door mounted chin up bar.
4. Physio Ball
A versatile and inexpensive gym machine
5. Roman Chairs
